The Impact of Overworking on Health
By Clinical Mental Health Team
We are all aware of the negative effects overworking has on our health. Our culture is fast-paced, with pressures to succeed at work and home while maintaining social obligations, healthy habits, and self-care. Balancing all these to-dos can leave us feeling like we are constantly running from place to place, checking boxes, and never fully resting.
Prioritizing work over rest often happens for many reasons: wanting to prove ourselves, succeeding in our careers, or being influenced by work culture. While hard work can lead to rewards, without intentional rest, burnout can take a toll on our health, relationships, and overall well-being.
Gain Self-Awareness: Reflect on what drives your long hours. Ask yourself if busyness gives you purpose, if the work culture is influencing you, and how your habits affect your well-being.
Redefine Leisure Time: Instead of seeing free time as “unproductive,” recognize it as essential for recharging your energy. Leisure is necessary, not optional.
Disconnect from Social Media: Take breaks from the constant flow of information and comparison. Slowing down digitally can help reset your pace.
Learn How You Recharge: Identify whether alone time or social time energizes you, and intentionally schedule activities that align with your personal recharge needs.
