Decluttering
By Clinical Mental Health Team
A busy life can leave us feeling both excited and overwhelmed. The holidays often bring an abundance of events, gatherings, baking, gift-giving, and high expectations. While the festivities are enjoyable, the physical clutter, busy schedules, and mental load can increase stress. Research shows that the more “stuff”—both physical and metaphorical—that surrounds us, the greater the impact on our mental well-being. Starting fresh is a perfect opportunity to declutter and create space for renewal.
Decluttering Your Life
Consider these three areas for decluttering as you step into a fresh start:
- Declutter Your Things – Sort through belongings, donate items you no longer need, and create space for new items or experiences. Letting go of excess possessions can provide both mental clarity and a sense of accomplishment.
- Declutter Your Mindset – Release unrealistic expectations or standards you’ve placed on yourself. Focus on attainable goals and prioritize being present in each moment rather than striving for perfection.
- Declutter Your Obligations – Take stock of your commitments and identify areas where you can slow down. Saying “yes” only to what truly matters can reduce stress and create a more enjoyable and balanced year for you and your family.
